Turn your smartphone or tablet into a convenient streaming companion. It has a VA panel with a high native contrast ratio that displays deep blacks, but like any budget-friendly TV, it lacks a local dimming feature to improve the picture quality in dark scenes. Sadly, it has limited HDR performance because it can't display a wide color gamut, has a few banding issues, and doesn't get bright enough to make highlights pop.
Motion also looks blurry due to its slow response time, and its input lag is higher than most TVs with certain content, so it's not ideal for some gamers. Besides that, it's the best cheap Roku TV we've tested. It's an entry-level TV that's fine enough for most people, and having the Roku TV built-in helps eliminate any extra wires you would have by connecting an external streaming device.
It's available in smaller sizes, from 32 to 49 inches, and most of the models perform like the 40 inch version we tested, but be careful because two of the 32 inch variants have a lower p resolution. Most of the sizes have a p resolution, so while you can't watch the latest 4k content, you can still watch SD and HD cable TV channels.
If you want to use it for some gaming, particularly with older consoles, it has low input lag for a responsive gaming experience, and it has a quick response time, but there's black smearing with dark objects. Although it doesn't get bright enough to fight a ton of glare, it's fine if you want to use it in a room with a few lights, thanks to its good reflection handling. Unfortunately, it doesn't support any HDR, meaning you won't get those vivid images like other TVs, but that's normal for an entry-level p TV.
It doesn't have options for color calibration either, but luckily it has excellent out-of-the-box accuracy. Overall, it's the best small Roku TV we've tested. This is nice if you have a group of friends over and they all want a turn showing their favorite YouTube clip, or if you want to use your TV as a digital picture frame when family comes to visit. Even better, that brightness is heavily emphasized by its great contrast ratio and excellent black levels.
For that we can thank its full array panel and several dozen contrast control zones that help the TV obtain higher contrast and can make even SDR content look great. Upscaling, an area that we panned the original P6-Series for in , has gotten significantly better this year thanks to the new AIPQ upscaling engine.
For example, The Matrix streaming on HD from Netflix still had bit of noise in some areas and colors looked desaturated. That means motion handling is fine, but can really suffer during fast motion. We opted for the last option and turned on Natural Cinema mode in lieu of motion processing. The former is what allows the TV to reach a peak brightness of around nits without suffering from major haloing while the latter makes its colors really come to life.
Wide Color Gamut or WCG is the driving force behind super saturated images — blues being bluer, greens being greener and so on. In practice, the results are extraordinary and look way above what a TV in this price range should be able to produce. We really liked Vivid for its saturated images and turned the TV brightness setting up from normal to bright and color temperature from warm to normal.
Details remain visible in any environment — from the darkest home theater to the brightest sun-lit living rooms. A bold, brushed metal design is complemented by an elegant power button jewel on the front bezel, communicating the 6-Series' power and refinement even before you turn it on.
